Counselor

Fargo Public Schools’ Counseling Program follows the standards set by ASCA (American School Counseling Association). Elementary School Counselors help in the identified areas of:

Personal and Social Development
Academic Development
Career Development 

School Counseling services include:

• Classroom Guidance Lessons (SecondStep Curriculum) 
• Small group counseling 
• Individual brief counseling (6-8 sessions) 
• Family support services
• Community referrals 
• Assistance with basic needs and resources

Fargo Public Schools uses the SecondStep curriculum for classroom guidance lessons. Topics that will be addressed this year are:

• Skills for Learning 
• Empathy
• Emotion Management 
• Problem-Solving 

In addition, students will have lessons related to:

• Understanding the school counseling program
• Bullying 
• Career and/or middle school preparedness
