Valley Bus wants to help get lost items back to their rightful owners! The Valley Bus lost and found, located at the Valley Bus office at 2761 Leahy Avenue South, Fargo is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday through the end of the school year. The lost and found is only for items lost on the big yellow general education route buses. Individuals looking for items lost on special education buses, shuttle buses, activity buses, or motor coaches should call the Valley Bus main office line at 701.235.2912.

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month! Thank you to the FPS speech-language pathologists and other educators that provide life-changing treatment for students with communication disorders!  National Speech-Language-Hearing Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of American Speech-Hearing Association members in providing treatment.

The Fargo Public Schools Calendar Committee met over the course of multiple meetings to develop the 2027-28 school calendar. The committee was comprised of teachers, parents, principals, students, district office representatives, a Fargo Education Association member, support staff, and a School Board member.

Thank you to all of Fargo Public Schools' school nurses! This Wednesday, May 6 was National School Nurse Day! FPS expresses its gratitude to the school nurses across our District for all they do to help keep our students safe and healthy. Please take time to thank your school nurse this week!

If you still need to register for kindergarten, please do it before registration closes on May 15! Fargo Public Schools is excited to welcome the next class of new students this August and early registration is extremely important. It allows us to plan staffing, prepare classrooms, and ensure we are ready to provide the very best experience for our newest learners. registration will reopen in July.

Experts agree that adult involvement is important in a child's success. A good day does not mean a perfect day or that everything goes as planned. A good day is one where we feel steady enough to move through what comes our way. It might include moments of connection, a sense of purpose, or simply getting through something difficult with a bit of support. Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to pause and consider something more personal and just as important: what does a “good day” actually feel like?

In times of financial pressure, balancing a school district budget requires thoughtful planning, careful prioritization, and continued focus on supporting students and staff. Like many other districts, Fargo Public Schools has worked through challenging budget decisions. An important part in understanding how we do this is recognizing that the District’s budget is not a single pool of dollars, but rather a collection of separate funds, each with specific purposes established by law.

Fargo Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for their outstanding support and commitment to music education. This award recognizes districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. FPS has received this award for 17 consecutive years and 23 times overall.

This year, National Library Week will be recognized April 19–25, with the theme of “Find Your Joy.” Fargo Public Schools is proud to highlight the many ways our school libraries support students, staff, and families. Fargo Public School libraries serve more than 11,000 students across the district in grades PreK–12. read more about services provided by FPS libraries.

Fargo Public Schools thanks all of its staff members for helping the District fulfill its mission of educating and empowering all students to succeed! To honor our employees, the District annually holds a staff recognition program. FPS staff and community members were invited to nominate a teacher, administrator, or support staff member who they feel is serving our students with excellence. 

Congratulations to the Fargo Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit on scoring a 98.5 and earning an overall rating of "Exceeds Standards" during a Unit Assessment on March 31! This is the highest rating attainable and reflects the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Paul Dosch and Chief Master Sergeant James Gibson.

Summer EBT will be available to eligible families in ND this summer. This program provides additional help for families with children to buy nutritious food when school is not in session. The benefit is $120 per eligible school-aged child and must be used within 122 days of issuance. Most families will get these benefits automatically, but some will need to apply. Households already participating in SNAP,  FDPIR,  or TANF will be automatically enrolled in the Summer EBT  program. Households not automatically enrolled and may be eligible can apply for Summer EBT by filling out a simple application.

Fargo Public Schools announces two administration assignments within the District. Amber Remark has been named assistant principal at Bennett Elementary School and Jennifer Spitzner has been named assistant principal at Eagles Elementary School.

The Early Childhood Special Education program will have a new schedule in the 2026–27 school year. ECSE students will attend classes Monday through Thursday, with Fridays reserved for screenings, evaluations, and Individualized Education Program meetings. Student session times will remain the same:

• Morning Session: 8–10:30 a.m.
• Afternoon Session: 12:10–2:40 p.m.

The Fargo Public Schools Self-Directed Academy is adding a high school option and moving to Carl Ben Eielson Middle School and South High School. Learn more about how each program will work at each location.

Horace Mann Elementary School is inviting the community to come take a walk down memory lane inside the historic building before it is demolished following the completion of this school year.

The building will be open to the community for self-guided tours on the following dates:

• Saturday, April 11: 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
• Wednesday, May 13: 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.

In classrooms across Fargo Public Schools, students are completing writing assignments, solving complex problems, working on group projects, and preparing for demonstrations of learning. What happens now sticks. That’s why showing up in April fully present and ready to learn sets the tone for a strong finish.

Human Performance gives students a supportive, hands-on environment to build strength, confidence, and lifelong healthy habits. The course blends age-appropriate weight training, cardio conditioning, mobility work, and practical lessons in nutrition and injury prevention. Students learn proper technique, improve overall fitness, and understand how to take care of their bodies in ways that support long-term wellness.

FPS yearbooks have been digitized and are now available online for alumni and interested community members to explore. This collection preserves decades of student memories, traditions, and school history all accessible from anywhere. Visitors will need to sign in to an alumni network account, to access the yearbooks.

Families play an important role in shaping the success of our schools, especially when it comes to supporting students served on Individualized Education Programs. One of the ways FPS brings families and school staff together is through the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee. Director of Student Support Services Shelby DiFonzo recently spoke with SEPAC Chairperson Katy Barnum to learn more about the committee.

While helping the earth by recycling, you can help the brain and soul by supporting the arts. Arts CAN Do recycling receptacles are located at many recycling centers around town.
